One, Another

(2017-)

One, Another (2017–) is an ongoing photographic series that began in 2017. Since 2020, One, Another has been presented in various forms including two site-specific installations in Canberra (2020) and Melbourne (2022). Comprising of 40 images, One, Another is updated at the photographers' discretion, reflecting its evolving nature, and that of the artists themselves.

Kenton/Davey is pleased to present One, Another’s latest physical form, an intimate portfolio consisting of the original 40 images from the series. The photographs in this sequence were made in Canberra, New South Wales, Singapore and Malaysia between 2017 and 2019.

‘Passing cameras around is like sharing a communal plate of food; the experience of being both photographer and subject is shared by the two of us.

‘We take any opportunity to photograph one another, developing an ongoing record of our daily lives while expressing something abstract and universal. The work leans into the realm of art, yet is firmly grounded in daily life.

‘The predictable singular viewpoint is widened to embrace and combine two perspectives, bringing the viewer not only on our journey but placing them directly between us, inside our lives, and inviting them to experience a shared passion for love, life, and photography. The notion of authorship is expanded beyond the definition of who pressed the shutter.’

40 pigment prints, each print 5.3cm x 8cm (paper 10cm x 10cm).
Photographs are printed on Ilford Gold Fibre Gloss 310gsm paper with archival inks. Photographs made on 35mm black-and-white film, hand-developed, scanned, and printed by the artists. All prints are signed and dated (printed 2022).
Prints are archivally mounted on double-weight, book-hinged, 100% cotton mattes, each matte 21cm x 30cm.
Photographic prints are presented in archival mylar sleeves, encased in a custom-made portfolio box with a front window. Each portfolio box is presented in a different colour (the portfolio box shown here is black Arbetex with dunkeloliv green Iris inset).
